Get to Know the Apostle Paul – Nancy I. Sanders

After enjoying Get to Know Mary, I was very fortunate to be given another book from the series to review for my blog.

Get to Know the Apostle Paul is another outstanding biography for children.  The introduction of historical information presented in such an interesting and engaging way makes this another winner.  The full color pictures and the variety of specialized sections within the text that feature interesting facts, maps, and scripture are all very well done.

While this complimentary book was provided for review by Harper Collins Publishing, no other compensation was given.  All remarks are my personal and honest opinions.

Get to Know Mary – Nancy I. Sanders

Get to Know Mary is a great biography for children.  It is part of a growing series of books featuring notable people from the Bible written by Nancy I. Sanders.  Our soon to be second grader has been fascinated by learning more about Mary and the time period in which she lived.  This book provides a lot of historical information in an interesting, engaging way.  The pictures throughout the text enhance the book.  The picture based timeline at the back of the book was a particular favorite.

Nancy Drew and the Clue Crew:The Make-a-Pet Mystery – Carolyn Keene

The next generation of Nancy Drew mysteries has arrived.  Nancy Drew and the Clue Crew books are a series of chapter books that are geared for ages 6-9 that include Nancy Drew and her friends set in modern day settings.  These are great independent readers that build fluency.  They have more substance than some of the other options in this genre, and our daughter really likes the idea of “figuring out” the mystery within the book as she reads and discovers different clues related to the case.

Sparky – Jenny Offill

This story opens with a little girl who desperately wants a pet.  Her mother finally agrees and supplies the following guidelines:  The pet must not need to be walked, fed, or bathed.  What is a girl to do?  The savvy main character goes straight to the Animal Encyclopedia at the library and discovers that a sloth would fit the rules.  Soon a sloth which is promptly named Sparky arrives via express mail, and then the fun really begins!

Sparky is a quirky, fun picture book
