Awesome Dawson – Chris Gall

Awesome Dawson is a fun book about a little boy who loves to collect “junk” and then turn those things into treasures.  As his skills as an engineer continue to grow, Dawson builds a machine that will do his chores for him.  Unfortunately, the machine is a bit too awesome and Dawson is faced with the challenge of regaining control.  Awesome Dawson is a cute story that is enhanced by colorful illustrations.

Whoosh!: Lonnie Johnson’s Super-Soaking Stream of Inventions – Chris Barton

Whoosh is a great book that shares the life and inventions of Lonnie Johnson who is an engineer and inventor.  While working on a new cooling system for refrigerators and air-conditioners, completely by accident, Johnson created one of the top selling toys of all time – The Super Soaker.  Shared in an enjoyable picture book format, this story is a great one to share with little kids as well as big ones.  I particularly appreciated the emphasis on the fact that Johnson’s path to success took a lot of unexpected turns and was truly challenging just like real life.

Little Mouse’s Big Valentine – Thacher Hurd

This is my favorite Valentine’s Day book in our collection.  Little Mouse has a very big valentine that he wants to share, but none of his friends are interested because it is just too big.  As he ponders how to solve his dilemma, Little Mouse makes a new friend and together they come up with a solution that allows everyone to enjoy a Valentine’s Day treat.

Way Back Wednesday ~ Love Monster and the Last Chocolate – Rachel Bright

Since Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, this seemed like a fitting choice for a Way Back Wednesday post.

Love Monster is such a cute character.  I was excited to see that he is now featured in a number of books.  Love Monster and the Last Chocolate is a very sweet story that focuses on the importance of being a good friend and the rewards of showing kindness to others.  We loved this one!

Control Girl: Lessons on Surrendering Your Burden of Control from Seven Women in the Bible – Shannon Popkin

Control Girl is an encouraging book that explores the stories of seven women from the Bible who struggled with the burden of control.  Although an easy and enjoyable read, this book has a powerful message.  I especially appreciated the reflection questions at the end of each chapter as a way of pulling together all of the ideas presented.

While this complimentary book was provided for review by LitFuse Publicity Group, no other compensation was given.  All remarks are my personal and honest opinions.
