This historical fiction text is based on the mission work the author’s mother did in her youth. The story pulls in the reader within the first few sentences, and the book just gets better and better as your read it. Knowing very little about the realities of life in the Appalachian Region, I learned quite a bit as well. After reading Christy, I understand why it is such a beloved book by so many.
