The Tree Lady shares the story of Kate Sessions (“Mother of Balboa Park”), who was the first woman to graduate with a degree in science from the University of California.  Through her study of plants and trees she transformed a desert like park area in San Diego to a lush tree filled paradise that remains today one hundred years later.  The text of The Tree Lady is well written as well as interesting and the illustrations are terrific.  This one is a winner!
