World View: Seeking Grace and Truth in Our Common Life – Marvin Olasky

This collection of articles is written from a Christian viewpoint and covers a wide range of topics.  Although one can read it cover to cover, it is really more of a reference resource.  Whether you agree with Olasky’s views or not, his writings really encourage one to think.

Way Back Wednesday ~ Saying Grace: A Prayer of Thanksgiving (Traditions of Faith) – Virginia Kroll

This post originally appeared November 2013.

Saying Grace: A Prayer of Thanksgiving is a sweet book that describes life as an early settler.  The story itself features a little girl named Grace who struggles to remember her spelling word for school – bounty.  The reader is soon introduced to the world of hardship as well as blessings that colonists encountered.  Saying Grace: A Prayer of Thanksgiving features beautiful illustrations and is a wonderful Thanksgiving book.

Hug Me, Please! – Przemyslaw Wechterowicz

I have to admit that the title of the book coupled with the image on the cover caught my attention when I was at the library.  It just looked like it would be a delight, and it is!  This sweet tale features a Daddy Bear and his son who share the joy and warmth of hugs with a wide variety of forest friends.  The illustrations in this book are particularly well done and really enhance the text.

Total Christmas Makeover: 31 Devotions to Celebrate with Purpose – Melissa Spoelstra

It is really easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of preparing for Christmas and completely lose focus on why we actually celebrate Christmas.  Total Christmas Makeover is a great way to refocus yourself and your family.  This seasonal devotional is terrific.  I particularly liked the questions for reflection at the end of each devotion as well as the practical approach suggestions which provide activity ideas for families.
