Way Back Wednesday ~ Say Something – Peter H. Reynolds

This review was originally posted on April 8, 2019.

Our favorite children’s book author has released another winner!  Say Something encourages the reader to realize that everyone has something worthwhile to share and by sharing can make the world a better place.  Delightful illustrations make the text come to life in this tale of encouragement and empowerment.  Say Something is the perfect classroom read aloud as you work on developing a strong class culture of risk taking and respect for each other.

Way Back Wednesday ~ Damn Delicious: 100 Super Easy, Super Fast Recipes – Chungah Rhee

This post was originally published on February 10, 2020.

I originally found Chungah Rhee’s blog (Damn Delicious) and was delighted with the results whenever I tried one of her recipes.  Then I found her cookbook which includes some favorites from the blog as well as many other outstanding recipes.  Although all of the recipes are fairly straightforward, each one has a complexity of the flavor not traditionally found in “easy” recipes.  This one is a winner!

Jesus Saves: The Gospel for Toddlers – Sarah Reju

Jesus Saves is a delightful board book that shares the gospel message in an age appropriate way.  Simple text coupled with the colorful, engaging illustrations make this book a great read-a-loud.  The final two pages of the book provide biblical support and suggestions regarding how to share the gospel message.

Way Back Wednesday ~ Ish – Peter H. Reynolds

This post was originally published on February 9, 2010.

Ish is another gem written and illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds.  Deceivingly simple text and pictures provide a powerful message in this follow up to The Dot.  Ramon loves to draw more than anything else in the world until his brother makes a mean spirited comment about his efforts.  A comment that Ramon takes to heart to such a degree that he no longer wants to draw at all.

Little does Ramon know that his artistic efforts have found a place of honor in his sister’s room.  Marisol sees the potential in each picture.  A stunned Ramon questions his sister as to why she would want the pictures especially since they do not look exactly as he would have hoped.  She quickly points out that the vase of flowers looks vase-ish.  Ramon is so soon able to see the art work in a whole new way – approaching it “ish-fully” rather than focusing on making it just “right”.

A great book for children as well as adults.  I love it!

God Made Me in His Image: Helping Children Appreciate Their Bodies – Justin S. Holcomb and Lindsey A. Holcomb

God Made Me in His Image is another title in the God Made Me Series.  This book presents God as our creator, and shares insight into God’s loving design in the creation of each of our bodies.  Each book in this series includes a section filled with biblical guidance for parents and offers additional information and resources which aid in discussion with your child in relationship to the topic addressed in the text.
