Happy Dreamer – Peter H. Reynolds

Peter H. Reynolds is a favorite author, and his new book Happy Dreamer is a delight.  This sweet tale reminds the reader that dreams are meant to be pursued not put on the back burner until the “right time”.  Many a reader will relate to the struggle of being full of imaginative dreams in a world that often doesn’t seem to encourage and embrace being different and coloring outside the lines.  Happy Dreamer can be enjoyed by little kids as well as big kids.

Stepping on Cheerios: Finding God in the Chaos and Clutter of Life – Betty Singleton Snyder

Stepping on Cheerios: Finding God in the Chaos and Clutter of Life is written in a very conversational tone and includes a variety of popular cultural references.  The book provides a good reminder about keeping things in perspective and being able to see the blessings that are all around us through the use of Biblical tie-ins to the text.  This book can be enjoyed by all moms, but I think mother’s of young children will particularly relate and enjoy this one.

Pax – Sara Pennypacker

I had seen this book on a number of “best books of the year” lists and decided to pick it up at the library for our daughter.  I am so glad I did!  Pax is a wilderness adventure story and so much more.  Told from alternating points of view, seven year old Peter and Pax the Fox share their friendship and their quest to find each other again after a heartbreaking separation.  This is a gripping book that will make you cry as well as think whether you are the target audience (8-12 years old) or an adult.  If you are looking for a book to read and discuss with your upper elementary/middle school age child, this is a great pick!
