Way Back Wednesday ~ Love Monster and the Perfect Present – Rachel Bright

This post was originally published on February 18, 2015.

Love Monster and the Perfect Present is the sequel to Love Monster which I previously reviewed and loved.  Although the cute, colorful love monsters are appealing to young children, this book is also enjoyable for big kids.  The story explores what makes a “perfect present”.  In the end, the love monsters learn that a truly meaningful gift is one that comes from the heart.

Happy Valentine’s Day!  Although this is not specifically a Valentine’s book, this story is a sweet one!

Love Monster is such a cute character.  I was excited to see that he is now featured in a number of books.  Love Monster and the Last Chocolate is a very sweet story that focuses on the importance of being a good friend and the rewards of showing kindness to others.  We loved this one!

Way Back Wednesday ~ Love Monster – Rachel Bright

This post was originally published on March 10, 2014.

Poor Monster is looking for love. He quickly finds that everyone loves cute, fluffy creatures like kittens and bunnies but finding love as a hairy, googly-eyed monster is rather difficult. Just as little monster is about to give up on finding love, everything changes and love finds him. Great text combined with darling illustrations make this a terrific read-a-loud to share with someone special!

The Lion Inside – Rachel Bright

A very sweet story that captures little mouse’s journey to find his “inner lion”.  In addition to finding the lion inside himself, he also discovers that a lion can have an “inner mouse” as well.  Great illustrations enhance this empowering read-a-loud text.

Hug Me, Please! – Przemyslaw Wechterowicz

I have to admit that the title of the book coupled with the image on the cover caught my attention when I was at the library.  It just looked like it would be a delight, and it is!  This sweet tale features a Daddy Bear and his son who share the joy and warmth of hugs with a wide variety of forest friends.  The illustrations in this book are particularly well done and really enhance the text.

You and Me is a terrific book.  This sweet story about friendship is written in rhyming couplet and features darling illustrations from Peter H. Reynolds that truly bring the text alive.  You and Me is a picture book gem that can be equally enjoyed by young readers as well as adults.  Looking for a little surprise gift for a favorite friend…This book would be a perfect choice!

Favorite First Day of School Book!

This post is a flash from the past.  It was originally published in 2011.

The Kissing Hand is an old favorite to read at the start of the school year.  Little Chester Raccoon is hesitant to leave his mother’s side and go to school.  She assures him that he will love school once he is busy playing with new toys, new books, and new friends.  She also shares a special secret that has been in their family for years – the kissing hand.  The kissing hand allows a little love from home to be with Chester at all times and gives him the confidence he needs to tackle his first day of school.  Quite simply a heartwarming story that provides true comfort to little ones and perhaps a few Mommies and Daddies too

Way Back Wednesday ~ Mrs. Spitzer’s Garden – Edith Pattou

Looking for a lovely book to give to a beloved teacher at the end of the year?  Mrs. Spitzer’s garden is a winner!  This post was originally published on 01/11/10.

Beautiful pictures coupled with simple text provide a powerful message. Mrs. Spitzer’s Garden highlights the impact and influence teachers have in helping children to grow.  Mrs. Spitzer is a teacher and is given a packet of seeds at the beginning of the year by the principal.  The reader is then able to follow the journey the seeds take with Mrs. Spitzer.  Just like real children in the classroom each seed is different and requires specialized care and attention to blossom.  This book shares an important message in a lovely manner.
