A Mountain of Friends is a cute book that features an act of cooperation in order to help a friend. The illustrations are darling, and the way the reader is pulled into the story to help is a nifty element.

Flashlight – Lizi Boyd
Flashlight is one of the best books I have come across in quite some time. It is a wordless picture book that features a small child exploring the night in the forest with a flashlight. Additionally, each page has a cut out that features a preview of what is to come next in the story. This book is truly a delight. I cannot recommend it enough.
One Big Pair of Underwear – Laura Gehl & Tom Lichtenheld
One Big Pair of Underwear is a silly, sweet tale written in rhyme that features darling illustrations. Besides just being plain fun, it provides a great message about sharing and even includes some basic math. This one would make a great read-aloud.
The Midnight Library – Kazuno Kohara
The Midnight Library is a sweet, gentle tale about a little girl who serves as the librarian of a special library that is only open at night and has animals as library patrons. For our daughter, who has a BIG imagination and loves books and animals of every sort, this one was a big hit.
Treasury of Bible Stories ~ Rhythmical Rhymes of Biblical Times (Magnificent Tales Series) – Kelly Pulley
This treasury of Bible stories is beautifully put together. The illustrations are engaging and colorful, and the rhyming text is fun to read. I have to admit I was a bit hesitant about a rhyming Bible story book. To my delighted surprise, the rhyming verse is well done, and it really does add to the enjoyment of the stories for young readers. As soon as I opened up the box for this book, our daughter was quick to take it into the family room and snuggle up and start reading…Enough said!

My Blue Bunny Bubbit – Maggie Smith
My Blue Bunny Bubbit is a very sweet tale. Bubbit the Bunny is a “cuddle buddy” that was made by grandma and is well loved. The arrival of a new brother brings the opportunity to make a special “cuddle buddy” just for him. Grandma helps the proud new sister make a very special corduroy elephant which will be a “cuddle buddy” for their newest family member. Bubbit the Bunny even gets to help them with their crafting!
Way Back Wednesday ~ The Kissing Hand – Audrey Penn
This post is a flash from the past. It was originally published in 2011.
The Kissing Hand is an old favorite to read at the start of the school year. Little Chester Raccoon is hesitant to leave his mother’s side and go to school. She assures him that he will love school once he is busy playing with new toys, new books, and new friends. She also shares a special secret that has been in their family for years – the kissing hand. The kissing hand allows a little love from home to be with Chester at all times and gives him the confidence he needs to tackle his first day of school. Quite simply a heartwarming story that provides true comfort to little ones and perhaps a few Mommies and Daddies too!
The Circle Maker for Kids: One Prayer Can Change Everything – Mark Batterson
The Circle Maker for Kids: One Prayer Can Change Everything is a children’s version of the adult best seller The Circle Maker. This book shares the story of Honi the Rainmaker which comes from Jewish legend and focuses on the power of prayer. The amazing illustrations cannot help but pull in the reader, and the impact and influence of prayer are powerfully shown through the text.
Always Daddy’s Princess – Karen Kingsbury
Always Daddy’s Princess is one of the sweetest picture books ever. It follows the relationship of a father and daughter from birth through adulthood. The text is charming, and the pictures truly capture the special relationship shared by father and daughter. Throughout the book there are also Bible verses that correspond with all of the different stages of growth and development that the daughter is going through during the story. This one is a winner!
Baby Bear – Kadir Nelson
Baby Bear shares the story of a little bear that is lost and is trying to find his home. On his journey he meets a myriad of kind animals who provide advice and help him. This story is touching, and the pictures in this book are absolutely breathtaking. A perfect choice for a bedtime story.
