Jesus Rose for Me is a terrific resource for sharing why we celebrate Easter with preschool and early elementary aged children.  Clear, easy to understand text is coupled with engaging illustrations.  The questions for further discussion found throughout the book are great for pause points to check for understanding and discussion.  This one is a winner!

Gus Loses His Grip – David Powilson

Gus Loses His Grip is another great book from the Good News for Little Hearts Series.  In this book, Gus struggles with his sweet tooth and his desire for more and more treats which ultimately leads to not only sneaking treats into his room but stealing from a local store.  Written from a Christian perspective, this book is an outstanding resource in helping children recognize how to handle situations when one wants something too much.  As is the case for all books in this series, a section that includes additional support for parents to have further discussion with their children as well as a listing of relevant Bible verses is included.

Henry Says Good-Bye – Edward T. Welch

Henry Says Good-Bye is another book in the Good News for Little Hearts series.  This tale focuses on dealing with grief and loss from a Christian perspective.  It is an excellent resource to open up discussion with a child who has experienced a recent loss.  Of particular note is the Helping Your Child Understand Sadness section at the back of the book which provides additional ideas for parents in order to effectively provide support for little ones.  Bible verses that reinforce the lessons in the book are also a terrific addition.

Tori Comes Out of Her Shell – Jayne V. Clark

Tori Comes Out of Her Shell is part of the Good News for Little Hearts series.  These sweet tales are written from a Christian perspective feature animal families and address challenges that are relevant to little ones.  In this tale, Tori and her family have just moved to a new pond which means a new school for Tori.  Making new friends presents a formidable challenge, and Tori struggles with loneliness.  This book is a tremendous encouragement.  It  does a great job of sharing biblical truths and includes a terrific discussion section to help parents facilitate further discussion with their children.  There is also a pull-out Bible verse card that features verses relevant to the story.

The Moon is Always Round – Jonathan Gibson

The Moon is Always Round is a beautifully written children’s book that tackles the question, Where is God in times of suffering?  The book provides gentle reassurance.  For any child who has experienced loss, this book would be a excellent tool to use for support as well as a means of initiating meaningful discussion.

This Bible Study Guide focuses on suffering and is geared specifically for teens.  Each well organized lesson provides reflection questions as well as a prayer focus and an action plan.  Additionally, throughout the study, real life situations are powerfully used.

Be Loved – Emma Mae Jenkins

This colorful, engaging book is designed specifically for pre-teen and teen girls.  Emma Mae Jenkins shares her high school years through the lens of her spiritual growth.  Of particular note is the inclusion of a scripture to remember section at the end of each chapter.  These well selected verses truly reaffirm the truths shared within the text.  Our middle school aged daughter was immediately interested in this book and continues to re-read it.

The Mission-Centered Life explores living in a mission minded manner no matter where you live or what season of life you may be in at this time.  The study guide is divided into lessons and each includes biblical text, an article, an essay, and discussion questions.  Ferguson’s unique experience as a missionary is Uganda, South Sudan, and Kenya provides for a highly interesting read as she shares many stories from her experiences as an overseas missionary.

Blind Spots: What You Don’t See Can Hurt You – Tim Riddle and Fil Anderson

Blind Spots: What You Don’t See Can Hurt You is an interesting book.  Using a biblical perspective, it explores recognizing and addressing our blind spots.  Riddle and Anderson write with a conversational tone and use many personal examples which enhance the text.  Although this book is highly readable, the content cannot help but challenge the reader.
