A Magical Christmas is a lovely story written in rhyme.  Little Mouse wants to know what exactly is the magic of Christmas.  In order to find the answer he goes and asks each member of his family, but each family member has a different answer.  Finally on Christmas Day Mommy Mouse shares with Little Mouse that all the answers were correct because…”The magic is love, Little Mouse.”

The illustrations in this book are particularly noteworthy.  They are simply beautiful.  Each page includes sections that are gently enhanced with glitter which truly bring the illustrations to life.

The Christmas Story for Children – Max Lucado, Randy Frazee, and Karen Davis Hill

I was excited to have the opportunity to review a new book from Max Lucado.  I am always impressed by his ability to write equally well for children as well as adults.  This Christmas book not only includes the birth of Christ but also his baptism by John and the beginnings of his ministry.  The text is a paraphrasing of scripture and is well done, and the illustrations enhance the text.

Throughout the month of December, I will be re-sharing some of our family’s  favorite Christmas books that have previously been featured on the blog.

Today I am happy to re-introduce Olive, the Other Reindeer by Vivian Walsh.

Olive, the Other Reindeer is a delight.  Olive is really a dog, but she becomes confused while listening to Christmas music as she is wrapping presents.  Rather than hearing about: “…all of the other reindeer…”, Olive hears her own version of the lyrics: “Olive, the other reindeer…”.  Although she was certain she was a dog, Olive doesn’t want to disappoint Santa, and she immediately heads to the North Pole.  Before long, it is clear that Santa really does need the special skills that only Olive can provide.

Shall I Knit You a Hat? is a sweet tale of friendship and highlights the power of giving to others.  With stormy weather on the way, Mother Rabbit knits an extra special hat for her Little Rabbit to ensure that he stays warm and cozy.  Little Rabbit decides that all of his friends would benefit from specially designed hats which would be the perfect Christmas gifts.  With Mother Rabbit’s knitting skills and Little Rabbit’s designs, each hat is made specifically to keep each animal toasty warm.  The animals are not quite sure about them at first, but soon they realize they are indeed perfect for each one of them.

Peace on Earth: A Christmas Collection – Mary Engelbreit

Peace on Earth: A Christmas Collection is a wonderful Christmas book filled with illustrated versions of well known carols, stories, and poems.  As a fan of Mary Engelbreit’s artwork for many years, I was excited to receive this review copy in the mail, and it not only met but exceeded my expectations.  Peace of Earth: A Christmas Collection would make a terrific holiday gift.  It truly captures the magic of the season!
