When You a Brave explores finding courage within yourself. It is a lovely book that includes beautiful illustrations and rich use of literary devices. Although a picture book, it would make a terrific read aloud for older students.

I revisited this classic and so enjoyed it. My Side of the Mountain shares the adventures of Sam Gribley as he spends a year living alone in the Catskill Mountains. His ability to live self sufficiently with his pet falcon Frightful was fascinating.

The second book of The Wingfeather Saga is a winner! Filled with more irony and even more plot twists, North! Or Be Eaten! is a suspenseful read that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. As soon as she finished this book, our middle school age daughter was ready to start reading the third book in the series!
