Igraine the Brave – Cornelia Funke

The cover of this book immediately caught my eye.  We have a little lady at home who enjoys fantasy stories and actually looks a great deal like the young lady featured on the front cover.  The fact that the plot of the book features a young girl who is challenged with becoming a knight and using her courage and skill in order to save her kingdom instantly grabbed our daughter’s attention and interest.  Igraine the Brave has quickly become a favorite and has now been re-read multiple times all in the course of a few week.

Ruby – Cynthia Bond

Ruby presents a powerful story focusing on the power of love.  Bond is a talented writer and her writing style is rather lyrical which is especially striking in juxtaposition to her subject matter.  Although an interesting story, I found the book a challenge to read due to the amount of sexual violence.  I truly felt emotionally exhausted and at times simply had to stop reading.

Miracle at the Higher Grounds Cafe – Max Lucado

Although I am a big Max Lucado fan, I was a bit skeptical about his first fictional work.  I was afraid it might be a bit hokey or heavy handed.  I was pleasantly surprised.  Miracle at the Higher Grounds Cafe was a fun and inspirational read.  You really cannot help but cheer on the characters.

I Choose You Today: 31 Choices to Make Love Last – Deb DeArmond

I Choose You Today: 31 Choices to Make Love Last is a great resource for Christian couples.  Each chapter begins with a real life story which is then followed with an explanation of biblical principles related to the issue/concern.  The questions at the end of each chapter are well done and enhance the text.  This book would be a great resource for those who are engaged and preparing to marry or for a couple-based Bible study or retreat.
