Our daughter was introduced to this book at nature camp this summer and loved it! It features the well known counting rhyme coupled with beautiful illustrations that include lots of details that are fun to explore.
On a recent visit to the library to pick up a few books we had on hold, All the Awake Animals Are Almost Asleep caught my eye. I threw it in my pile of books to be checked out from the library. When our daughter got home from school, she quickly selected it for the first story to read that afternoon. Although wonderful any time of the day, All the Awake Animals Are Almost Asleep is a marvelous bedtime story. A little boy whose mother is trying to tuck him in for the night is meeting some resistance. Her solution is to share with him how all the awake animals are growing tired and getting ready to sleep. The animals are introduced in alphabetical order so this book is in fact an ABC book, but it is far more sophisticated than most introducing the reader to new vocabulary and excellent examples of alliteration. In addition, the illustrations are stunning and bring the text to life for the reader.
This is a perfect bedtime story to use during the holiday season. It features all of the familiar elements of Christmas from gingerbread cookies to reindeer and has each one saying good night to either Mommy of Daddy in his/her own special way. The illustrations in this book are of particular note and provide much for little ones to enjoy.
You Are My Miracle is a sweet celebration of the parent and child relationship which focuses on preparations for Christmas. The story is told in rhyming verse, and includes lovely illustrations.
Lauren Thompson is a great author. Her Mouse series highlights the many firsts encountered by a little mouse. Mouse’s First Halloween follows inquisitive little mouse through all sorts of Halloween experiences which in the end all prove not to be so scary after all. This is a gentle Halloween tale that would make a great read aloud.
Everything I Need to Know Before I’m Five is a cute concept book which includes the alphabet, numbers, opposites, shapes, seasons, weather, and colors including mixing them. Bright, colorful pictures make this book fun to explore with your child.
This little gem is just sweet. It makes a perfect bedtime story for a little one. Additionally, there is much that could be used for further discussion with young readers including colors and musical instruments. Sharing this book with someone special cannot help but make both of you feel good!

I was organizing the book basket downstairs earlier today, and I came across this beloved book. Bear on a Bike was an early favorite for our daughter. Using a myriad of different forms of transportation (bike, train, raft, boat and hot-air balloon), Bear explores the world. A young child follows Bear throughout the journey asking questions of the bear the entire time. The simple text and bright, colorful pictures are a delight for readers young and old. This one is a winner!
The Easter Story is a board book that does a great job explaining to young readers why we celebrate Easter. The text is clear and well within the grasp of a preschooler’s understanding, and the pictures are beautiful and truly enhance the text.
