Baby Badger’s Wonderful Night is a very sweet story. Little Baby Badger is afraid of the dark. Papa Badger helps Baby Badger see the beauty of the night by taking him on a nighttime walk. So often children’s book focus on the mother and child relationship. I love that this book features the relationship between father and child. The illustrations are beautifully done and truly enhance the story.
The power of simplicity is found in Emily Gravett’s Chameleon. Yes, this book is about colors, but it is also about a search for friendship. The simply language coupled with eye catching illustrations of the chameleon transforming from color to color in an attempt to “fit in” and find friendship makes this book not only an engaging read for all ages, but serves as an outstanding starting point for meaningful discussion about friendship for older children.
The Beginning Reader’s Bible is a Bible story book. It contains thirteen stories from the Old Testament and thirteen stories from the New Testament. Each story is beautiful illustrated and is enhanced through special sections including: bible verse study, real world application ideas, and a prayer. Another great feature in this book are the various charts and lists that are included as reference material – Ten Commandments, listing of the 12 Apostles and the 12 Tribes of Israel, charts to note when stories were read and Bible verses were memorized, as well as a copy of the “Sinner’s Prayer”.
The Beginning Reader’s Bible is a lovely hardbound book which would make a wonderful gift for a little one.

I love Pete the Cat! This is another winner I found on the “new release shelf” at the library. Pete is enjoying his new white shoes. He is singing a song about them as he goes for a walk until he encounters some strawberries. Needless to say, the shoes are soon not white…
The delightful sing song rhyming found in the book allows it to be read as a story or more of a song and takes the reader on a wonderful journey with Pete and his shoes. The best part is the way in which Pete handles unexpected change. He teaches children and adults alike the power of resiliency and the importance of keeping things in perspective. A great book for a read aloud for little kids as well as big ones. It doesn’t get much better than Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes! A new favorite has been found…
Really Woolly Bible Stories is a delightful collection of Bible Stories from the Old and New Testmaments. It is a padded board book that features the “really woolly” characters who are extremely cute and appealing to children as well as adults. The Bible stories are each told in rhyming verse and are perfect for preschool aged children. The final pages of the book include a prayer which is a lovely conclusion to the text and a wonderful introduction to prayer for children.
This book would make a wonderful Christmas gift for a little one!

If I Could – A Mother’s Promise is a book that captures the hopes and dreams every new mother has for her child. The tale follows a Mommy Raccoon and her toddler son throughout their day. The text is simple and reflects the deep love between mother and child. The illustrations are fantastic and are highly appealing to young and old alike. This book would make a lovely gift for new mother.
Monsters Don’t Eat Broccoli is quite simply a fun book. The illustrations are bold and colorful and all the monsters are drawn in a whimsical manner that reminds me of Sesame Street friends like Elmo and Cookie Monster. They were instantly loved by our daughter!
The rhyming text is clever and works well with the bright, engaging illustrations. It seems that monsters are willing to eat just about anything (boulders, tractors, ships, trees) with the exception of broccoli, but surprises await the monsters as well as the reader is this light-hearted, engaging tale.
A Christmas Prayer is a wonderful book that focuses on the true gifts of Christmas. It features a family preparing for the holidays and focuses on the actions of their daughter. As the story of Christmas is told the daughter recreates the nativity scene using her own toys. As she finds each figure for the nativity scene she thanks God for the role each played.
This book was a quick favorite for our daughter. The rhyming prayer is charming and makes the Christmas story accessible for young readers, and the illustrations are beautifully done and make the story come to life.

One Hand, Two Hands is a new children’s book from Max Lucado. The first thing that caught my attention were the wonderfully engaging illustrations. Starting with the cover, each picture captures snipets of a little girl’s action packed day in a magical way. The text itself focuses on all the things the little girl is able to do with her very own hands from holding a cup to digging in the dirt. As the story continues, the little girl’s hands move from play to helping, showing kindness, and ultimately love as she prays a prayer of thanksgiving to God.
This book is a terrific tool to use to start discussion about service to others as well as being simply an enjoyable tale.

100 Prayers God Loves to Hear, 100 Praise Songs provides 100 short lessons centered around prayers for any and all occasions. I really like how this book provides a place to begin to share and discuss Biblical truths with small children that is meaningful yet completely age appropriate for a preschooler. The illustrations throughout the book are colorful and help to communicate the message in each section.
Two CDs come with the book. There are 100 songs in all and each song is specifically linked to one of the prayers. Some of the songs are old favorites and some were new to us, but they were all enjoyable and a nice addition to our CD collection.
