The Secret Destiny of Pixie Piper is a fun book which features Pixie Piper and her pet goose named Destiny. Being one of Mother Goose’s relatives is no easy task especially when you are a fifth grade girl. This fantasy tale is a highly enjoyable read that features positive lessons about friendship with lots of giggles along the way.

Miracle in Music City is part of the Faithgirlz series. It provides a good lesson about the importance of being brave and taking risks. I really enjoyed it. It was an awesome book!

Bible Stories: In the Beginning includes movie adaptations of the lives of four different Bible characters – Abraham, Moses, Jacob, and Joseph. These movies have been restored and remastered, but they still clearly feel like they were produced in a different time. That being said, the stories are faithfully presented and feature a number of notable actors. Although the video is rated “family approved” by the Dove Foundation, I would caution parents to preview the video first. The treatment of animals is a particular concern. The images are realistic for the time period, and I believe young viewers could easily be disturbed by them.

The Chronicles of Narnia is an amazing fantasy series with strong Biblical themes. It can be enjoyed by children as well as adults. Our daughter has been reading thru the series with Dad at bedtime and loves it. I highly recommend partner reading these book aloud with your child and discussing them. There is a lot to take in for the reader on every page. This particular edition of the series includes beautiful illustrations and would make a terrific gift.
True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle is a classic tale of incredible adventure on the high seas which features a dynamic heroine. It is a standout in the genre of historical fiction for tween and teen readers, and a story one will long remember. This one is definitely worth adding to your summer reading list!
If you have a tween or teen who has a quiet temperament in your home, this is a must read! Cain does an outstanding job of not only explaining the differences between introverts and extroverts but how both types have tremendous gifts to contribute within friendships as well as groups. I especially liked how she provides chapters specifically focused on challenges tweens and teens deal with in the classroom and in social situations. This one is truly a winner!
This series is filled with history, mystery, and science. The main characters are fashioned from the lives of Ada Lovelace (the world’s first computer programmer) and Mary Shelley (author of Frankenstein) in the year 1826. In this version of their stories, the girls meet as tween girls and start a detective agency. This is a fun, engaging tale. We will definitely be looking for future titles in this series!
Not many people appreciate fish like Stanley Potts does, and when he leaves his uncle’s home and joins the circus, he discovers his own unique path. This quirky, fantasy based tale was a quick enjoyable read.
I still remember reading The Phantom Tollbooth when I was a child. I encouraged our daughter to get it when we were at the library. She loved it too! Milo’s adventure and the play on words throughout the book delighted. We had the best time talking about this book and the choices we thought Milo should have made on the adventure through the Lands Beyond. The Phantom Tollbooth is a classic that still entertains!
Fantasy adventure stories are always a hit with our daughter. The Never Ending Story did not disappoint. With a hero’s quest filled with lessons and the opportunity to meet a wide variety of whimsical creatures along the way, The Never Ending Story is delight.
