The Familiars is a fast moving fantasy based series which features animals. Our daughter has delighted in reading them! As a parent, I love them because they are filled with adventure but are not too scary for a sensitive child. This series is a winner!
This nifty book is part of the FaithGirlz! series and is full of fun, age-appropriate activities for tween/teen girls. Many of the activities are perfect to do with friends. I know our daughter will delight in exploring the options with her friends in the months and years ahead. This one is a winner!

When I was reading the original version of this book, our daughter kept asking me about the story. Although the book was a bit too much for a younger reader, I had some great conversations about the book with her and the roles teamwork and tenacity had in the story. I was truly delighted to discover the young readers adaptation. Our daughter could not put this book down once she started reading. Brown has a tremendous talent in sharing non-fiction stories in a highly engaging way. This one is really a winner in both the original version as well as the young readers adaptation!
Ratscalibur provides a new spin on the King Arthur story using rats. This fantasy based book is filled with adventure and action and was really enjoyed by our daughter. She specifically mentioned that it was worthy of getting a post on my blog…Quite an endorsement!
A Chameleon, a Boy, and a Quest is a powerful tale of enchantment that is filled with action as well as themes from the gospels. Written by a doctor who has served as a medical missionary in East Africa, the story takes place in an environment similar to the villages in which she works. Although the book is written to appeal to children with animals that speak and a few well chosen illustrations, this tale of discovery, redemption, and sacrifice is a great read for adults as well.

Anyone but Ivy Pocket is a tale of adventure and mystery. Ivy has a rather distorted view of herself and seems to find mishaps at every turn. The story is fast paced and the book is hard to put down once you start.
The premise of this book is that the main characters enter a world of real life fairy tales. It provides an exciting, fantasy adventure that had our daughter reading every spare minute she could find. She particularly liked the fact that the smart, savvy main character was a girl.
Fantasy books are a huge hit this summer at our house. The Cats of Tanglewood Forest features a little girl who goes on an amazing adventure through the forest and is able to meet and speak with many different animals. The illustrations found throughout this book truly enhance the text.
Henham’s Dragon Codices Series is a an action-packed adventure series that is hard to put down once you start. Filled with fantasy, these books explore the world of dragons and include interesting human characters. Our daughter especially appreciated the fact that the main characters in this book were a courageous little girl and a brave female dragon.
The cover of this book immediately caught my eye. We have a little lady at home who enjoys fantasy stories and actually looks a great deal like the young lady featured on the front cover. The fact that the plot of the book features a young girl who is challenged with becoming a knight and using her courage and skill in order to save her kingdom instantly grabbed our daughter’s attention and interest. Igraine the Brave has quickly become a favorite and has now been re-read multiple times all in the course of a few week.
