The Llama Llama books always provide an entertaining story. Llama Llama Time to Share is a sweet story that reinforces the importance of sharing. This charming tale would make a perfect read-aloud for preschool aged children.

I don’t think I can adequately express how much I love this book!!! The Museum is a terrific story that is masterfully illustrated. In the book a little girl goes on a visit to a museum and makes all sorts of wonderful discoveries. She quickly finds that different feelings are evoked by every piece of art she encounters. Ultimately, there is a blank canvas that catches her eye and she knows that it is now her turn to create.
Sky Color is Peter H. Reynold’s latest work and is the third book in his “Creatrilogy” which includes The Dot and Ish. It is a wonderful conclusion to the series and focuses on the creative spirit in each of us. I always appreciate that Reynold’s encourages “out of the box thinking” in his books, and Sky Color does not disappoint. This one is a winner!
I will be on a “blogging vacation” this week in order to enjoy some extra special time with our daughter during spring break.
My all time favorite author/illustrator is Peter H. Reynolds. I love how he writes children’s books that can drive home powerful messages for children as well as adults. Our family had the delightful experience of meeting Peter H. Reynolds and hearing him speak about his work. For me, it was like meeting a “rock star”. It was so much fun to be able to share with him the impact and influence his work has had on me, and how I have shared his work with so many by using his books to illustrate a point at meetings and workshops and now as a Mom and a blogger. I also delighted in having him autograph my beloved first edition copy of The Dot.
Are you a Peter H. Reynolds fan too? He is visiting Dallas next week – Friday, March 15th! He is one of the speakers for the Dallas Museum of Art’s BooksmART Series and will be discussing his newest collaborative work The Museum which I will be blogging about in the coming weeks.
I will be taking next week off to enjoy some extra special time with our daughter during Spring Break, but I will be back the following week with reviews of some exciting new releases!
Humble Heart ~ A Book of Virtues is a wonderful collection of short stories. Each story focuses on a specific value and features an animal as the main character of the story. Whether we were reading about Felicity Frog demonstrating joy, Lancelot Lion displaying courage, or any of the other animal friends, all of the stories were engaging. Each story gently introduces a virtue and then concludes with a question to discuss with your child.

Silence celebrates what we can hear when the world is quiet. From waves crashing, and birds singing, to your heart when you are running, there is lots to hear when all is quiet if you take time to listen.
Quiet is an outstanding book that explores the culture of extroversion that defines our country and the hidden power within introverts. This book was fascinating and provided a tremendous degree of insight regarding introverts and extroverts. One cannot help but recognize situations which Cain describes from his/her own life experience and no doubt will see them a bit differently after gaining greater understanding from her work. Introvert or extrovert…This one is worth reading!

Almost to Freedom shares the story of Lindy and her family’s escape from slavery through the Underground Railroad. The illustrations are haunting, but what truly makes this book unique is that the story is told from the point of view of the little girl’s doll. Our daughter was intently interested by this narration technique and quickly became engrossed in the story.
As I have shared in the past, I am a big Max Lucado fan. This devotional book is another winner. It is based on his book Just Like Jesus and includes thirty days of study. Each daily devotion highlights steps in thinking, hearing, reflecting, and speaking with a focus on knowing Jesus better.
