Case for Grace for Kids – Lee Strobel

Case for Grace for Kids does a great job of explaining God’s gift of grace.  The first chapter provides an explanation with the remaining chapters in the book providing real life examples of people who have had their lives changes as a result of God’s love and grace.  Although this book could be read independently by a child, I really think this book lends itself to further discussion with a parent or in a small group Bible study.  There are even some questions at that the end of each chapter which could start the discussion.

10 Ultimate Truths Girls Should Know – Kari Kampakis

This book started as a blog post and received such a positive response that it has been expanded into book form.  It should be a must read for all tween/teen girls.  Kampakis provides so much good information.  The discussion questions at the end of each chapter are outstanding.  This text would be terrific for a mother/daughter book study.

Way Back Wednesday – Christmas Style #4

God Gave Us Christmas begins with Little Cub asking his Mama about who “invented” Christmas.  The Little Cub wonders if it might be Santa.  Mama Bear explains that God invented Christmas and ultimately takes a journey with Little Cub in order to let him see that God is everywhere and how He gave us Christmas.

I really appreciate how this book directly addresses why we celebrate Christmas but also includes an explanation about Santa:

“Did God give us Santa?”

“Santa Claus reminds us about many good things like generosity and care.  But it is God and Jesus that we celebrate most come Christmas.”

God Gave Us Christmas is a sweet and wonderful Christmas book which includes beautiful illustrations.

Another “bonus” post this week ~ Lots of  books arriving from publishers that need to be reviewed!

It Will Be Okay: Trusting God Through Fear and Change is a terrific book.  The friendship that develops between little seed and little fox is a sweet one.  Their adventures together ultimately help them realize that although things around them may change – God is always there.

For little ones who tend to be anxious and worry, this book is a must have!

The Christmas Story for Children – Max Lucado, Randy Frazee, and Karen Davis Hill

I was excited to have the opportunity to review a new book from Max Lucado.  I am always impressed by his ability to write equally well for children as well as adults.  This Christmas book not only includes the birth of Christ but also his baptism by John and the beginnings of his ministry.  The text is a paraphrasing of scripture and is well done, and the illustrations enhance the text.

Nature Girl: A Guide to Caring for God’s Creation – Karen Whiting and Rebecca White

We have a nature girl.  She loves all things outdoors.  This great little book includes activities, recipes, and science experiments that any nature girl would delight in exploring.  This book is written as a guide for girls to help care for God’s creations.  It is very well done and would make a terrific Christmas gift!

Treasury of Bible Stories ~ Rhythmical Rhymes of Biblical Times (Magnificent Tales Series) – Kelly Pulley

This treasury of Bible stories is beautifully put together.  The illustrations are engaging and colorful, and the rhyming text is fun to read.  I have to admit I was a bit hesitant about a rhyming Bible story book.  To my delighted surprise, the rhyming verse is well done, and it really does add to the enjoyment of the stories for young readers.  As soon as I opened up the box for this book, our daughter was quick to take it into the family room and snuggle up and start reading…Enough said!

Get to Know Jesus – Nancy I. Sanders

After enjoying a couple of other Get to Know biographies, I was very fortunate to be given another book from the series to review for my blog.

Get to Know Jesus is another outstanding biography for children.  The introduction of historical information presented in such an interesting and engaging way makes this another winner.  The full color pictures and the variety of specialized sections within the text that feature interesting facts, maps, and scripture are all very well done.
